Teaching experiences and interests
In an academic context, I have taught tax law, law of contract and land law, all in Cambridge. For all these subjects, my role was that of a "supervisor". Outside academia, I have been an instructor of corporate trainings on tax topics at Ernst & Young in London. Further to these, I am also interested in teaching other subjects such as equity, international law, commercial law and corporate law.
Teaching philosophies and testimonies
As much as I enjoy research, I also enjoy teaching. There are a few principles that guide the way I teach. A first principle is to use simple, relatable and interesting examples to explain difficult materials. This has proved useful for my teaching in the contract law course. The following quotes from a student and director of legal studies evidence this:
student: "Contract was one of my most enjoyable subjects this year
and that was down to the way in which you helped us learn"
director of legal studies: "…thank you also for the great work with the students - they have all
told me more than once how much they enjoy your supervisions, and the subject because of it"
A second principle is slow and clear speech. This has been a common feature of many lectures that I have enjoyed myself as a student, so it is applied in my own teaching. A final principle is that I aim to help students form a holistic understanding of course materials and in particular an understanding of the relationships between different issues. Materials of a law course get detailed very quickly. It seems clear that without a big picture in mind it is easy to get lost. An example of applying this principle is this mind map that I designed for my contract law teaching which connects all topics taught in this course. When asked how my teaching could be improved in that course, a student said:
"I found the revision map in the last supervision really useful and so I think if that had been
incorporated in from the beginning it would have been particularly useful for me and the style I learn in"
